Public Health Emergency Extended in NWT

July 13, 2020

As new cases are continuously emerging and being reported in other Canadian jurisdictions, the Chief Public Health Officer, Dr. Kami Kandola, recommended the Minister of Health and Social Services, Diane Thom, to extend the territory-wide Public Health Emergency under the Northwest Territories’ Public Health Act.

The GNWT will continuously review the situation and measures to keep in sync with the current and evolving situation to effectively stop the spread of the COVID-19 virus in the communities.

Travel within the NWT is restricted upon arrival. Everyone entering the NWT must self-isolate for 14 days in Yellowknife, Inuvik, Hay River or Fort Smith – with limited exceptions.
